Caos Cine, a New Mexican Distributor, Launches at Morelia Fest With ‘The Huntress,’ Picked Up From Edher Campos and Gabriela Maire’s Zafiro (EXCLUSIVE)

A new player is in town. Upstart Mexican distributor Caos Cine, founded by Regina Serratos and Eduardo Diaz Cazanova, has launched at the Morelia Film Festival (FICM) with its first pickup, “The Huntress.” The debut feature of Susanne Andrews Correa marks its Mexican premiere Oct. 19 at the fest, where it competes.
“Caos is here to shake up the industry, opening up new opportunities for films to find a distribution path tailored to their needs and receive the individual attention they deserve,” said Diaz Cazanova who also runs production company Peninsula Films & Entertainment, which he founded with his brother, Gabriel Diaz Cazanova.
The first pic in Caos’ Mexican distribution slate, “The Huntress” is toplined by “Emilia Pérez” star Adriana Paz, a Cannes 2024 Best Actress winner along with the rest of the female ensemble cast in the musical drama.
“We are deeply moved by the opportunity to share this emotionally resonant story with audiences. Supporting the creative team and championing emerging talent are central to our mission. We are incredibly proud to welcome the only Latin American film selected for Sundance 2026 to our catalog and to bring it to Mexican audiences for the first time at FICM,” added Serratos, who previously led distribution at Pimienta Films and coordinated distribution at Piano from 2015 to 2020.
Based on real-life events, Paz plays Luz who sets out to kill a serial rapist on the loose in a bid to keep her 14-year old daughter and other young factory workers safe. As events unfold in the border town of Ciudad Juárez, she is forced to confront the consequences of her actions.
Beginning in 2018, Andrews Correa made repeated trips to Ciudad Juárez. There she spoke with factory workers, journalists, filmmakers, activists, psychologists, social workers, public officials and mothers of disappeared women to ground “The Huntress” in the lived realities of the city and approach a complex issue with nuance and sensitivity.
“’The Huntress’ is both a love letter to this resistance and a warning about the injustices that fuel it,” she said.
Filmed in Ciudad Juárez and Mexico City, “The Huntress” was produced by Zafiro Cinema, founded in 2018 by Gabriela Maire (“The Good Girls”) and Edher Campos (“Huesera: The Bone Woman”), alongside U.S.-based The Population, led by Mynette Louie (“Swallow”).
The 24th Morelia Film Festival opened on Oct. 16 and wraps on Oct. 25.
