Daraga college goes green with solar-powered building in Albay

LEGAZPI CITY — The Daraga Community College in Albay has inaugurated its solar-powered building on Wednesday (October 21), providing a more environment-friendly learning facility for its more than 6,000 students.
Located in Barangay Salvacion in the town of Daraga, the four-story building is equipped with solar panels capable of generating 96 kilowatts of electricity, or 96,000 watts, helping meet the college’s power needs and minimize interruptions to classes, municipal engineer Fiel Montallano said.

The P65-million project was funded through the Local Government Support Fund, with support from Ako Bicol. Construction of the fourth floor began in December last year and was completed in August.
College administrator Joey Zamora said the new facility would help sustain academic excellence and improve teaching and learning conditions as the college community grows.
Daraga Mayor Victor U. Perete said education remained a priority of the local government, which planned to offer more courses to accommodate additional students and acquire land for further campus expansion, including another school building. /jpv
