2027: Rivers Assembly candidate dumps NDC, pitches tent with ADP

Popular Okrika-born philanthropist and grassroots politician, Hon. Desmond Stephen, has officially resigned from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and pitched his tent with the Action Democratic Party (ADP).

In a resignation letter dated May 25, 2026, Stephen expressed gratitude to the NDC leadership and members for the opportunities and political experience he gained during his time in the party.

He said the decision was made after careful reflection and in line with his commitment to serve Okrika with renewed energy and clarity of purpose.

Stephen is now the ADP’s candidate for Okrika Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Known for his community outreach, youth empowerment programmes and advocacy for local development, he noted that ADP’s platform better aligns with his vision for education, infrastructure, healthcare, and economic opportunities in Okrika.

Stephen’s decision to dump the party has drawn wide attention across the constituency, with supporters describing it as a bold step toward more responsive and people-centred representation.

Confirming the resignation in a telephone conversation with Vanguard on Saturday, Stephen noted that “the decision was born out of my desire to give a good representation to my people”.
