Harry Kane became the first Englishman to win the Ballon d'Or in 25 years, joining the list of legends like Sir Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan, Michael Owen, and Sir Stanley Matthews on the prestigious roll of honour. It was at the London Palladium Theatre in his hometown that Kane lifted the Golden Ball, marking arguably the biggest moment of his career. Still riding the wave of his triumph, whispers of Kane potentially being honoured with a knighthood have already reached his ears. In fact, the Bayern Munich forward quite liked the sound of "Sir Harry Kane" when asked about the discussions back home.

Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone after Bayern's 6-1 win over Magdeburg in the German Cup (DFB-Pokal) on Wednesday night, Kane said that he would not mind being given a knighthood, but he does not want to get too carried away by thinking about such things.

"I wouldn't say no to it, that's for sure. But yeah, look, I appreciate the overwhelming support from everyone back home, everyone here in Germany, and all around the world really. So, yeah, I mean, if it happens, it'll be incredible and something I'll be massively proud of. But I don't want to get too carried away," said Kane, who was rested for the German Cup match.

"It will sound good, but I'll feel weird with everyone calling me Sir. So, let's keep it as Harry," he added with a smile.

When asked if he was left on the bench because he had celebrated too hard after his Ballon d'Or win, Kane explained that he was fit to play but was glad to be given a rest by the coaching staff.

"No, I didn't. I didn't party too hard. I could have played, but to be honest, the coach spoke to me, and he already said he was thinking of trying to give me a break in this game, even before the Ballon d'Or, because I played a lot of games in the last six weeks or so. It just worked well, and the guys who started did really well," he explained.

"There was a moment in the game where he was thinking about bringing me on, but then we scored the fourth goal and killed the game off. So, all in all, I think it was important to get a rest. It has been a big emotional load, going through the massive high on Monday, and we have a big game on Saturday now as well. I'll train tomorrow and get ready for that," the 33-year-old added.

Bayern Munich now face their biggest rivals in the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund, in a league match on Saturday. Kane is already raring to go for the "biggest match of the season", admitting that this is the fixture that matters most when it comes to the title race.

"It is a big match, obviously the biggest match of the season for us in the Bundesliga. Both teams are top of the table, joint on points, so we know how much of a boost it'll be if we can win that and get a three-point lead. It's been a tough week with a lot of emotional ups and downs across the squad. For us to have won the last couple of games has been really important, and now, hopefully, we can finish the week off perfectly on Saturday," Kane concluded.
