Translate

A student has been arrested after a principal and teacher were shot at a school on Monday morning, French media report.

The 14-year-old was reportedly detained after the incident at Lakanal middle school in Aubagne, southern France.

The teachers are said to have been treated for injuries which are not life-threatening.

Broadcaster BFMTV and Le Parisien reported that the incident was not thought to be related to ongoing protests over school conditions, citing sources familiar with the investigation.

Education Minister Edouard Geffray wrote on social media: "Two staff members from the National Education system, a principal and a teacher, were victims this morning of gunshot wounds at Lakanal middle school in Aubagne.

"A student is said to be the perpetrator."

He is due to visit the scene near Marseille with Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez on Monday afternoon.
