DC Releases Official Map Of Supergirl's Permanent New Fortress Base

An experienced Editor representing Canada via ScreenRant's Team Anime, J.R. has been reading manga since the first printing of Shonen Jump in North America. This passion drove him to write about anime, manga, and manhwa since 2022, having recently served as Lead Anime Editor for ComicBook.com.
His favorite moments in media coverage include reviewing the series premieres of Zom 100 and Bleach: TYBW Part 2 back-to-back and briefly meeting Junji Ito at a VIZ gallery event in 2023.
Nearly a decade ago, Supergirl established her own spin on her cousin's Fortress of Solitude on DC Super Hero Girls, creating less of a private retreat for Superman and more as a communal home. Considering the ever-expanding mythos of the House of El and their growing group of friends and found family, it's entirely fair for Supergirl to want to address this with a more inclusive solution in mind. So, when the Kingdom of Zod storyline concluded last month, Supergirl got to introduce this concept to the current DC Comics continuity, using the Sun Crystal for the House of El to do it.
As Supergirl #18 confirms, the Fortress of Solidarity is a massive crystalline housing complex with various amenities, research, defense, and other miscellaneous capabilities. It houses the members of the Super Force including its latest additional resident, Wombat, with enough flexibility in its living quarters to suit the aesthetic tastes of everyone. But it also presents important distinctions between itself and the Fortress of Solitude, beyond the private vs. shared space dichotomy. With a detailed map laying out each of its facilities, Supergirl's Fortress of Solidarity has practically everything that could be needed, and is shown already being put to good use.
Supergirl's Fortress Of Solidarity Gets Detailed New Map
Shown in Supergirl #18, the Fortress of Solidarity's aboveground structure, resembling a giant crystal snowflake bearing soft pink hues with an orange core, inside is a multi-floor complex that leads underground with dozens of dedicated facilities and rooms already. The new home even has rooms for the Super Force and friends, including Nightflame, Thundergirl, Lesla-Lar, Princess Shark, Lana Lang, Lena Luthor II, and now Wombat alongside the newly-reconstituted Matrix, affectionately named "Mae", who previously replaced Kara in the post-Crisis era.

As readers will no doubt realize, the Fortress of Solidarity is an enormous complex serving a collection of lofty purposes from crimefighting, to threat detection, to care for animal welfare and Earth's needy. With noteworthy differences like the Preserve as compared to the connotations of Superman's "zoos" from previous stories, it presents as a compassionate home for travelers and the displaced of all varieties. As the Super Force and Kara's growing roster of friends expands and fills out the Fortress, it's clear they're only scratching the surface of its capabilities, and just what it houses.
Supergirl Is Only Beginning To Learn What Her Home Base Can Do
In addition to finding the secrets of a data cube containing the artificial DNA for Matrix, the hidden sanctum room finally made it possible for the alternate version of Supergirl to return, with no small amount of discord and confusion about whether she or Kara are "impostor" Supergirls. Its research facilities have already yielded deeper insights, such as into Thundergirl's abilities including Radio Waves with EMP capabilities and a special blend of Kryptonian heritage, enabling immunity to all Kryptonite including Gold Kryptonite. Astrometrics facilities are no joke either, quickly gaining a fan in Lesla from afar. But such an enormous facility, and what enables it, inevitably draws those who covet its power.
Near the end of the issue, the Fortress of Solidarity is attacked by Reactron, the classic recurring Supergirl villain, who instantly breaks up the party by using Gold Kryptonite to steal Kara's powers, "permanently". Reactron's purposes are rather simple, as he merely seeks the Sun Crystal and Supergirl, and ultimately, to get paid, whether by a variety of shadowy villainous cabals or one single benefactor. It starts a new chapter for Kara Zor-El as she experiences life suddenly without superpowers. With Reactron still on the loose, Kara and her Super Force will need to plan their next steps in the new story from Sophie Campbell and Tamra Bonvillain, The Ego Death of Supergirl.
