Spoilers ahead for Reacher season 4.Instead of seeking novelty with each new installment, the Reacher franchise does not shy away from sticking to its well-worn tropes and trends. Like Lee Child's Jack Reacher books, even the Prime Video detective series is expected to deliver exactly what fans expect from it.

Owing to this, every Reacher season follows a predictable narrative where the titular lead arrives in a town and gets embroiled in a new high-stakes criminal conspiracy. Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher perfectly embodies the "mysterious strange" trope with his stoic demeanor and morally gray crime-solving endeavors.

By adapting Lee Child's Gone Tomorrow, Reacher season 4, too, sticks to the franchise's winning storytelling formula. However, while at it, it also breaks many franchise trends. For instance, for the first time, Reacher does not end up dating his female law enforcement ally. Even towards its ending moments, Reacher season 4 cleverly breaks two more franchise trends to etch a unique identity of itself.

Amisha Is The First Major Reacher Villain Who Is Arrested Instead Of Killed

Lila and Amisha Hoth initially seem innocent and harmless as Lila assures Reacher that she is only a journalist. However, Reacher season 4's biggest twist ultimately reveals the two women are main antagonists. In previous seasons of Reacher, the titular Alan Ritchson character has been completely unforgiving towards the villains.

He ruthlessly killed any bad guy that stood in his way before wiping out the final bosses as well. Even in season 4, he takes a similar approach but often struggles to get ahead of Lila and Hoth. When he does finally face them in an ultimate showdown, he does not hold himself back from going all out. During the final fight, he pushes Amisha out of a window, which suggests she is dead.

Alan Ritchson's Reacher then goes on to overpower Lila before killing her with the very bioweapon she intended to use in a terrorist attack. Surprisingly, however, Amisha eventually returns in the season's final scene and almost kills Reacher before Jacob takes her down with a non-lethal gunshot.

Since Jacob was previously deadset on killing the Hoths for murdering his sister and nephew, one cannot help but expect him to kill Amisha. His entire arc was defined by his mindless pursuit of revenge where he wanted nothing but Amisha and Lila's blood on his hands. Fortunately, Jacob realizes that killing Amisha would cost him his morality. As a result, he spares her and arrests her instead of taking her life.

With this, Amisha Hoth becomes the first major Reacher villain to survive the final showdown against Jack Reacher.

Jack Reacher Takes More Damage In Season 4's Ending Than Any Previous Finale

Up till season 3, it seemed like Paulie was the most physically imposing threat Reacher had faced in the series. The Olivier Richters character was bigger, heavier, and even stronger than Jack Reacher. Eventually, though, in their final fight, Reacher managed to outsmart him. In season 4, however, Reacher struggles to understand Lila and Amisha's true motives, let alone overpower them.

Even when he faces them in the final fight, they almost bleed him to death by landing many fatal knife wounds all over his body. They only lose because they underestimate his ability to keep going even after losing a lot of blood. Reacher took some hard blows during his fight against Paulie in season 3, but he was never on the brink of death.

Against Lila and Amisha in Reacher season 4, the Alan Ritchson character seems to have a brush with doom. If Jacob had not arrived on time to take Amisha down, Reacher would likely have died. Owing to this, it seems fair to say that in terms of overarching stakes, Reacher season 4 has been the best installment of the Prime Video franchise so far.
