Translate

Egypt  won the CAHB (Consecutive African Junior Handball Championship) African Men’s Junior Handball Championship for the fourth consecutive time and 15th time overall after defeating Tunisia 31-29 in the final on Saturday, 12 September.

The victory capped an unbeaten campaign for Egypt, who overcame Tunisia in a closely contested final after trailing 14-11 at halftime.

Egypt responded strongly after the break with a 6-1 run to take the lead. The team later built a four-goal advantage before securing the 31-29 victory and another continental title.

Goalkeeper Moustafa Bayoumi made 13 saves for Egypt, while Yahya Alkordy scored seven goals and Youssef Laoloua added six.

The result also secured Egypt a place at the 2027 IHF (The International Handball Federation) Men’s Junior World Championship, alongside Tunisia, Nigeria, Angola, and Guinea, who finished among the tournament’s top five.

Nigeria defeated Angola 24-19 to claim the bronze medal, while Guinea finished fifth after victories over DR Congo and Libya.

Nigeria’s Saka Muktar finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 52 goals in six matches.

The CAHB African Men’s Junior Handball Championship is the continent’s main competition for junior men’s national teams and also serves as a qualification tournament for the IHF Men’s Junior World Championship. The 2026 edition was held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from 5 to 12 September, with the top five teams earning places at the 2027 World Championship.

Egypt entered the tournament as the defending champions and had previously won the title 14 times, making them the most successful team in the competition’s history.
