Dark Souls III released in 2016, wrapping up the main trilogy of the critically acclaimed action RPG series from FromSoftware, with Dark Souls: Remastered following in 2018. While its incredible difficulty and dark fantasy world helped the franchise stand out in the gaming genre, its mysterious lore and ever-expanding mythology also contributed to its enduring fan appeal. Now, that franchise-defining lore expands once more in a new, bingeable Dark Souls release.
On December 3, 2025, Dark Souls returned with Dark Souls: Mother of Mourning #1, the first installment in what would become an epic four-part miniseries from Titan Comics. Returning fans to the dark fantasy world of the Dark Souls video game franchise, the series went on to expand the franchise’s lore, bringing brand-new content to fans.
Brought to life by the creative talents of writer George Mann, artist Maan House, and colorist Steve Canon, this miniseries did a commendable job of expanding the Dark Souls mythos. The miniseries followed the Knights of Mourning as the group searched for a way to save their dying world, only to ultimately be consumed by madness when they turned to the Mother of Lillies, a soulless, mummified saint whose salvation came with a twisted price.
While this miniseries originally wrapped up on May 20, 2026, with Dark Souls: Mother of Mourning #4, Titan Comics has just recently released Dark Souls: Mother of Mourning Vol. 1, which collects all four issues into one masterpiece that is as beautiful as it is grim.
