Kim Kardashian Says She Has to "Hold" North West Back From Fame Aspirations

Kim Kardashian has help to keep up with life as a single mom.

While detailing how she cares for her and ex Kanye West’s kids North West, 13, Saint West, 10, Chicago West, 8 and Psalm West, 7, The Kardashians star confirmed that she keeps one nanny on duty at all times, with four additional in rotation.

“I think I am an intermediate-strict parent,” Kardashian told The Times in an interview published Oct. 3. “I’m extremely patient and loving. I still have a kid sleep in my bed when they want. I read books with the kids every night.”

But despite the staff she has assisting her, the SKIMS founder still takes her kids to school every day, picks them up and eats dinner with them every night. Beyond everyday parenting duties, she and her ex are also navigating their kids’ roles in the spotlight, particularly their eldest North.

“I do worry about it,” Kardashian shared. “Each kid does what they’re comfortable with. So, my little ones come around when I’m filming but they don’t really do storylines. North loves it a little bit more than the rest. I hold her back. All she wants to do is forward-facing projects.”

Indeed, the 45-year-old admitted it’s a balance to turn down some projects for North here and there “so we can really make sure that we manage it the right way.”

“With her, since it’s more music-related, that is something that her dad and I have better communication about,” Kardashian added. “We make sure that we’re aligned and that she’s in projects that we both approve.”

As for how she’s balanced parenting and dating following her and West’s breakup, her newfound relationship with Lewis Hamilton—which she hard-launched in June—came after several years of making her kids her only personal priority.

“I was really single for five years,” Kardashian explained. “That felt great. I could focus on my kids and projects that I really wanted to be involved with. I really felt no rush.”

And even if she wasn’t a single mom of four, staying single for so long gave Kardashian room to grow as an individual.

“I felt like I needed my time,” she said. “I wanted to completely heal and just work on myself. I wasn't ready to open up. I really wasn't even thinking about it. The universe works in your favor when you just allow it to.”
