KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — The stage lit up, two little ones skipped in first, and then Syed Saddiq and Bella Astillah stepped into the spotlight to the cheers of 3,000 guests at what many are calling Malaysia’s wedding of the year.
The Muar MP and the singer-actress, known to fans collectively as BASS, celebrated their marriage at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre here last night.
The magic began at exactly 8.41pm, when the lights came up on the evening’s celebrations.
Two minutes later, Bella’s children, Ayden and Ara, made their entrance together, followed by the couple at 8.46pm.
Each wore two outfits through the night, with Rizalman designing their first looks, Hijabistahub creating Syed Saddiq’s second and Alia Bastamam designing Bella’s.
Musician Datuk Mokhzani and his DM & String Ensemble set the mood with live accompaniment, while Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza and Jaclyn Victor performed for the guests.
Then came the moment that stole the evening, when Ayden took the stage to say how much he loved having Syed Saddiq in the family.
He described Syed Saddiq as the person who brought his mother’s smile back.
Syed Saddiq’s parents also took the stage to share their own messages for the couple.
After more dance and music performances and the cake-cutting, Syed Saddiq took the microphone and told Bella exactly how he felt.
He said he was thrilled to finally call her his wife now that their marriage had been declared “sah”.
“I am the happiest person alive,” he said, adding: “I am the luckiest man on the face of this earth.”
He praised Bella’s strength and sacrifices, recalling how she brought her family from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur and had already made her name in television when he was still relatively unknown.
He also spoke fondly of Ayden and Ara, calling them bright children he now has the privilege of calling his own.
“She is the ultimate green forest, she is the ultimate mother, and exceptionally, I now have the privilege to call her my wife,” he said to Bella.
He added that he would return to Parliament the next day with renewed happiness and enthusiasm.
The night ended on a note fit for a storybook, as Bella sang Bersama Aku Setia Selamanya, a new song composed by Hael Husaini, as her dedication to her husband.

Among the guests were Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Datuk Seri Azalina Othman, who is law and institutional reform minister.
Joining them were Scha Al-Yahya and her husband Awal Ashaari, Fazura, Amelia Henderson, Fasha Sandha and her husband Aidil Aziz, Sweet Qismina and Adam Lee, as well as Hairul Azreen and Hanis Zalikha.
Singers Aina Abdul and Sarah Suhairi, actors Ikmal Amry and Azira Shafinaz, Sophia Lian, Liza Abdullah, and entertainment personalities Michael Ang and Rosix Omar were also there, along with Masira Yasmin Mokhzani, granddaughter of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The reception was also featured as the fourth episode of Walimatulurus Bella Astillah & Syed Saddiq, a reality special documenting their wedding festivities and new life together, which was broadcast live.
The couple had earlier held their solemnisation at Merdeka 118 on October 10, attended by close family, friends and prominent political figures.
The celebrations are far from over, with two public receptions, dubbed Kenduri Rakyat, bringing the couple’s love story beyond the capital.
The newlyweds will welcome the public in Muar, Johor, on October 25, followed by Kota Kinabalu on October 31.
