Sky, Propagate & Passion Going Inside Tupac Shakur Trial

Translate

Sky, Propagate Content and Passion Pictures are preparing a documentary feature about the Tupac Shakur trial.

Directed by BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated docmaker Marian Mohamed, the as-yet-untitled doc comes after a Las Vegas jury found Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty of first-degree murder of one of the greatest rappers of all time, coming after three decades of mystery. Davis will be sentenced on October 13 and the doc will air in 2027.

For three decades the case gave the world everything except a clear truth. But no voice was louder than Davis’s own – confessing on tape, on YouTube and in his own memoir. In the end, a jury decided that the most famous unsolved murder in modern American history was carried out all along by the man who kept telling the story of his own guilt after the longest-running hustle in hip-hop history finally had its day in court.

Mohamed, whose credits include The Elon Musk Show and Cult Massacre: One Day in Jonestown, has followed the trial from the first day of evidence through the verdict and on to sentencing. The film also features never-before-seen personal archive: intimate footage and stills from Tupac’s family and confidantes, set against the courtroom record of the trial itself.

“I want this film to give a voice to a family who are not just grieving, but who have taken back agency in how the murder of Tupac is viewed,” said Mohamed. “Most importantly, I want this film to make people laugh and cry and argue. I want whoever watches this to emotionally connect with not just the story of how Tupac died but with who he was.”

The film is from Passion Pictures with Propagate Content and West Buttermilk, produced for Passion by Charlotte Rodrigues and executive produced for Passion by Hamish Fergusson, Will Anderson and David Moulton. Executive producers are Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, Drew Buckley, and Taylor Levin for Propagate; James Packer for West Buttermilk. Propagate is handling worldwide sales on the documentary feature.
