Ex-Scoot crew supervisor gets jail after pocketing nearly $51,000 from in-flight sales to pay off debts

A former Scoot crew supervisor was sentenced to 11 months' jail in Singapore on Oct. 27 after taking nearly SGD65,000 ($50,700) of the budget airline's in-flight food and beverage sales proceeds.

Muhammad Fadzil Nasir, 38, was a crew-in-charge who supervised a team of nine crew members and oversaw the smooth running of flights, The Straits Times reported. He committed the offenses between May 2023 and March 2025.

As part of their work, Fadzil and other crew members collected cash from passengers for in-flight food and beverage purchases. They placed the money inbags and recorded the sales returns on an online portal.

The bags would ordinarily be submitted to Scoot's food and beverage vendor by a person known as a "complex leader," Deputy Public Prosecutor Teng Yin Hang said.

Investigations found that from May 2023, Fadzil volunteered to submit the bags on the complex leader's behalf on most of the flights he was assigned to. But he would take the cash-filled bags home without recording the sales returns.

According to court documents, he misappropriated more than SGD31,000 on 137 occasions between May 2023 and April 2024, and more than SGD33,000 on 169 occasions between May 2024 and March 2025. He has since made full restitution.

"He did so because he knew that Scoot would not check whether the bags had been submitted... He then used the misappropriated cash to repay the various loans and credit card debts," the prosecutor told the court.

Fadzil had borrowed from licensed moneylenders and run up credit card debts to pay for his family's daily expenses.

The offenses came to light during an internal investigation of another cabin crew member. A police report was made on March 26, 2025, and Fadzil was arrested the next day, the same day his employment was terminated.

Fadzil's is the second case in recent months in which a former cabin crew member of Scoot, a low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, has been jailed for pocketing cash from the carrier.

On March 27, Luqman Hakim Shahfawi, 32, a former Scoot cabin crew member and complex leader who pocketed nearly SGD40,000 from in-flight food and beverage sales, was sentenced to seven months' jail, CNA reported. He had made partial restitution of SGD11,000.

After that sentencing, Scoot said it had strengthened its internal processes to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
