Dev Meena bettered his own National Record in the men’s pole vault during the Asian Games 2026 final on Tuesday.

His earlier record stood at 5.46m, which he registered at the Inter-State Athletics Championships earlier this year, an effort which had helped him breach the qualification mark for the Asiad.

That clearance at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar came barely a month after he and Kuldeep Kumar had shared the national record with identical 5.45m efforts at the Federation Cup in Ranchi.

In Japan, he cleared 5.50m to better that effort and register a new Personal Best. Compatriot Kuldeep was also in the mix in final, but he finished 10th with a best of 5.35m.

At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Meena had missed the podium after finishing fourth with a best of 5.30m.
