KUCHING: A 16-year-old student who allegedly attacked a teacher at a private school here on Wednesday remains hospitalised while under investigation.

Acting Sarawak Police Commissioner Deputy Commissioner Saifullizan Ishak said police were proceeding with investigations into the suspect, subject to his medical condition and advice from medical officers.

He gave an assurance that all applicable legal procedures would be strictly observed throughout the investigation process.

So far, police have recorded statements from 24 individuals to assist in the probe into the attack.

"The suspect is still receiving medical treatment, and as of yesterday, police have taken several actions to help complete the investigation into the incident reported at a private school in Kuching.

"This includes recording statements from 24 people comprising the complainant, victim, medical officers, arresting officers, parents of the suspect, family driver, school officials, and students," he said in a statement today.

Saifullizan said police were considering all relevant statements and evidence to ensure a comprehensive investigation.

He added that further action would be taken based on facts gathered during the probe and statutory provisions.

He urged the public to respect their privacy and refrain from sharing identities, photos, or personal information that could lead to the identification of any party, especially minors.

In the 8.03am incident on Wednesday, a female teacher at the school sustained injuries to her hand.

Initial information revealed the student brought firecrackers to the school before allegedly attacking the teacher with an axe.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 1957 for possession of explosives.
