The Somanya District Police Command has arrested a 57-year-old man for multiple shoplifting incidents in southern parts of the country.

The suspect, who had been trending on TikTok and other social media platforms over shoplifting allegations, was arrested at a hideout in Akode, near Somanya, in the Eastern Region.

ASP Nana Akomeah, Somanya District Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that officers arrested the suspect on November 5, 2026, at about 1530 hours, in a joint operation involving the Somanya District Police Command and the Borteyman Police in Accra.

He said the arrest followed credible intelligence the police received about videos circulating on social media in which the suspect was accused of stealing various items from shops in Accra and other parts of southern Ghana. During interrogation,

ASP Akomeah said the suspect identified himself as Nsiah Samuel, 57, a self-acclaimed chief and minister of the gospel residing at Akrade in the Asuogyaman District.

He said the suspect admitted to stealing consumable items, electronic gadgets, clothing and other shop items from shops in Kibi, Suhum, Ashaiman, Accra Central, Koforidua, Tema, Akosombo and Adenta, among other locations.

The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with the investigation, with possible prosecution to follow.
