Tempting Fortune season 3 line-up: Meet the contestants

Tempting Fortune is back for a third season on Channel 4 with a new group of contestants put through their paces in the ultimate test of temptation.

As ever, the series sends 12 strangers on a gruelling 13-day trek through the tropics of Langkawi, Malaysia, stripped of home comforts and surviving on basic rations. The group starts with a shot at a share of a £300,000 prize pot, but along the way they face a stream of tantalising temptations, from familiar treats from home to money-can't-buy experiences. Every one carries an eye-watering price tag, and every pound spent comes straight out of the shared fund.

Comedian Rob Beckett replaces Paddy McGuinness as host and guides the fortune seekers across the jungle, as they weigh their own desires against the good of the group.

This year, the contestants are split into two groups from the very start, forced to trust near-strangers not to spend, while new twists and tough choices put fragile friendships, unwritten pacts and willpower to the test.

Charlotte

Age: 33

Job: Tourist attraction performer

Location: London

Charlotte is swapping the acting life for adventure in the new series of Tempting Fortune.

Having relied on her family in the past, Charlotte is ready to make a change and become more independent and wants to prove she can take on this arduous challenge.

But if a temptation arrives that could enhance her experience or become a lasting memory, she might be able to resist.

Cressida

Age: 56

Job: PR director

Location: Surrey

The daughter of the late Earl of Dudley and actress Maureen Swanson, and sister to the current Earl, Lady Cressida is heading into the jungle to face down a new fear of heat and heights that she says arrived with the menopause.

Her career spans PR and communications and senior pharmaceutical roles, followed by work supporting children with SEND, and she is now training to become an addictions coach. The youngest of five sisters, she is used to royal treatment, yet raising a daughter and son single-handedly gave her a fierce streak of independence.

All the same, a good party, a silent disco or an ice cream could loosen her purse strings.

Jack

Age: 22

Job: Medical student

Location: Nottingham

On a break from his medical degree, Jack is trying his hand at modelling and travel, and sees the show as an ideal way to push his strength, stamina and judgement.

A heart condition three years ago upended his everyday life, and he has since embraced any chance to chase a thrill.

He enjoys splashing out on wellness treats and looking well groomed, so a jungle spa treatment, a standout experience or a tempting bite could all lead him to raid the prize fund.

Jennie

Age: 47

Job: Marketing consultant

Location: Peak District

A marketer and mum of two, Jennie has weathered her share of ups and downs and now thrives in a job that lets her creativity run free.

She rarely stays still, filling her downtime with drawing, painting and a weekly family film night.

Her long-term willpower is strong, but her appetite for making the most of life leaves her vulnerable to instant gratification, and a perfectly made spicy margarita could tempt her into spending thousands for a single sip.

Kieran

Age: 29

Job: Roofer

Location: Lancashire

Kieran enjoys a champagne lifestyle on a lemonade budget and takes pride in his humble beginnings.

He is the first to admit he buys now and thinks later, but with a baby just weeks old, he is wondering whether fatherhood might finally rein in his spending.

Family comes first, so he wouldn't hesitate to pay for a call home to his fiancee, and the chance to freshen up or grab some fast food on the trek could quickly add up.

Lucy

Age: 39

Job: Support worker

Location: West Wales

Lucy is beginning a fresh chapter, having recently bought a first home with her wife.

With her daughter now 17, she feels ready to test herself and hopes finishing the trek will restore her self-esteem.

A former rugby player with a competitive edge, she is usually careful with money, but going without a shower unsettles her, and home comforts like a sleeping mask and an orthopaedic pillow could prove too tempting.

Nico

Age: 38

Job: Environmental officer

Location: Ipswich

A self-described social chameleon, Nico usually puts everyone else first.

Family is what matters most to him, and his ambition to buy a home and start one with his partner of five years is what spurred him to sign up.

He isn't much of a spender and admits he would hand over his last penny to help someone in need, but sweet treats or the chance for a haircut and beard trim could test his willpower.

Sam

Age: 47

Job: Former diplomat

Location: London

Sam has circled the globe as an international diplomat and says he is happy to trade diplomatic receptions for the Malaysian jungle as he ticks off his bucket list.

A serious health scare has changed how he sees life, money and the things he enjoys.

He appreciates the finer things but maintains he would never live beyond his means, though a cheese board and a flight of wine, a jet skiing session or even a humble chip butty might just tip him over.

Sarah

Age: 56

Job: Dog groomer

Location: Greater Manchester

Sarah devoted the past five years to caring for her mum, and following her mum's death she feels ready to embrace any adventure, however unusual.

Raised to be careful with money, she is a keen bargain hunter, but she also loves pampering herself and treating her pets to new outfits.

A massage, a passion fruit martini or a bit of air conditioning could all prove hard for her to turn down.

Shaf

Age: 28

Job: Train conductor

Location: West Yorkshire

Shaf has always dreamed of acting but feels his confidence isn't quite ready for the spotlight, so he is travelling to the other side of the world to step out of his comfort zone.

Careful with cash, he saved enough to buy his first home in his twenties and wants to hold on to as much prize money as he can to furnish it.

Even so, burgers, a cup of tea or a fizzy drink might prove too much to resist.

Tierney

Age: 25

Job: Retail assistant

Location: Newcastle

Fashion-loving Tierney has had her outlook shaped by looking after her family, and describes herself as confident, independent and resilient, with a knack for reading people and a habit of trusting her gut.

She wants to do more for her mum and nan, and is facing the trek despite a real fear of creepy crawlies.

An admitted impulse spender, she could find a cheese, bean and sausage melt, a vanilla latte or a chance to use her phone hard to resist.

Yvonne

Age: 43

Job: Teacher

Location: Coventry

A teacher and mum of two, Yvonne passes on the value of resilience to her children, having made a life-changing move to the UK 20 years ago.

She finds children easier company than adults, and sees the adventure as a way to test her patience among a mix of grownups.

Her self-discipline is strong and designer labels hold little appeal, but good food and a comfortable bed might be her undoing.
