Reacher spin-off Neagley gets future confirmed following debut episodes and original show's success

Prime Video has handed its Reacher spin-off Neagley a second season, just two weeks after the first run dropped in full and days after the parent show secured its own early renewal.
Amazon confirmed the pick-up of the Maria Sten-led thriller while sharing that it had reached 40 million viewers in its first 13 days, making it Prime Video's fourth most-watched original series debut, with more than half of that audience coming from outside the US, particularly the UK, Germany and Brazil.
Sten leads the show as Frances Neagley, a Chicago private investigator and former military protege of Jack Reacher from the Army's 110th Special Investigations Unit. The first season follows her as she sets out to find justice after learning that a close friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident.
The show is a direct offshoot of Reacher, the Alan Ritchson-fronted hit based on Lee Child's novels. Ritchson guest stars as Reacher in the spin-off, which also features Greyston Holt, Adeline Rudolph, Jasper Jones, Matthew Del Negro and Damon Herriman.
Speaking to Radio Times ahead of launch, Sten explained why the spin-off feels more emotional than its parent series, saying: "We want to start from a place that feels familiar, then slowly we develop a different kind of language."
The star added that Neagley is "a different person" from Reacher, giving the show room to dig into her character's backstory, trauma and relationships – areas the flagship drama only touched on.
That grittier, more psychological tone was also picked up in Radio Times' Neagley review, which found the Prime Video thriller more serious and sensitive than Reacher even as it kept the franchise's familiar nuts and bolts.
The renewal arrived hot on the heels of good news for the wider franchise. Prime Video renewed Reacher for a sixth season just this week, while its fifth season is still in production.

Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, said: "Audiences around the world have embraced Frances Neagley as a force all her own.
"Maria Sten delivers a commanding, layered performance that drives every episode, and Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton have built a world that is both thrilling and compelling. We are excited to continue this story and explore what's next for Neagley with our partners at Paramount Television Studios."
