BUTTERWORTH, Oct 19 —Highway users on the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) between KM16.7 and KM17.7 will be diverted for two hours on October 21 for an emergency simulation exercise.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad said in a statement that the diversion would be in effect from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, affecting westbound traffic travelling from Butterworth/Kubang Semang towards Lunas.

During the exercise, affected motorists will be diverted through the eastbound Penanti Rest and Service Area (R&R).

The exercise aims to assess PLUS and the relevant agencies’ preparedness, response time and coordination in handling highway emergencies, as well as evaluate accident response and safety procedures.

Participating agencies include PLUS, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Health Ministry (KKM), Department of Environment (DOE), Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), transport strategic partner Prifaria Sdn Bhd and highway maintenance contractor Edgenta Infrastructure Services (EIS).

Motorists can obtain the latest traffic updates through the PLUS app, PUTRI Virtual Assistant, PLUS social media platforms, including its @plustrafik account on X, and variable message signs (VMS) near the exercise area.

For emergency assistance, the public can contact PLUSLine at 1800-88-0000. — Bernama
