Mbah appoints Enugu Air chair as transport commissioner

Translate

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has appointed Richard Agu as the state’s commissioner for transport.

The Secretary to the Enugu State Government (SSG), Chidiebere Onyia, announced this in a statement on Wednesday.

“In accordance with the provisions of the law, his name has been forwarded to the Enugu State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation,” the SSG, a professor, said.

Mr Agu, a lawyer, is the current chairman of Enugu Air, a state-owned airline.

He will replace Obi Ozor, who was recently removed as the commissioner for transport.

Sources said his removal might be linked to an alleged fraud investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Enugu State Government reportedly petitioned the anti-graft agency over the alleged fraud against the then-official.

Meanwhile, insiders said the former commissioner was asked to resign even though the EFCC investigation did not find him guilty of financial fraud.

Mr Ozor and his wife were reportedly arrested and detained at the EFCC office in Enugu for about two days during the investigation.

The former official was appointed commissioner for transport in 2023.
