JUST IN: Runner Elizabeth Moselakgomo’s body formally identified

The family of missing Kempton Park runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo has formally identified her body.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the 38-year-old was identified at the Germiston mortuary on Monday, 14 September.

Moselakgomo disappeared after leaving her Rhodesfield home for a run. She was the fourth woman found dead in the Kempton Park area, with police discovering her body behind a hotel in Rhodesfield on 12 September.

Her family had been waiting for formal confirmation before SAPS announced her identity.

SAPS vows to find those responsible

Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane expressed her condolences to Moselakgomo’s loved ones.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Elizabeth during this extremely painful time,” Dimpane said.

“The loss of a loved one under such circumstances is devastating.”

Police vow to establish what happened

Dimpane said SAPS would now focus on establishing the circumstances surrounding Moselakgomo’s death and identifying those responsible.

She directed the multidisciplinary team already investigating a number of women’s deaths in Gauteng to intensify its work.

“We assure the family that the SAPS will do everything within its powers to establish exactly what happened to Elizabeth and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” she said.

Dimpane vowed that police would pursue anyone whom the evidence links to the crime.

“We will not rest until we have established the truth,” she said.

“Where there is evidence linking individuals to these crimes, we will pursue them relentlessly and ensure that they face the full might of the law.”
