Six member delegation to visit Parliament street police station over Jantar Mantar curbs

NEW DELHI: A six member delegation comprising activists and politicians, including Neha, Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav, Nandita Narain, RJD leader Manoj Jha and Nikhil Dey, is scheduled to visit the Parliament Street Police Station in Delhi at 3 pm on Monday over restrictions on protests at Jantar Mantar.The delegation is seeking clarification from authorities on the reasons behind the alleged restrictions and the legal basis for them.In a statement announcing the visit, the delegation questioned why the right to protest at Jantar Mantar was being restricted and asked authorities to clarify the reasons for the decision.

“For what reasons? By which Law? On whose orders?” the statement asked.

The delegation also linked the issue to concerns over voting rights, asking: “Why is our Right To Protest At Jantar Mantar Being Snatched Along With Our Voter Rights?”Heavy barricading at Jantar MantarJantar Mantar in Delhi was heavily barricaded on September 25 amid nationwide protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Security personnel were also deployed outside the Election Commission office in New Delhi ahead of a Delhi Congress demonstration over the SIR exercise.CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said on Friday that his organisation would launch nationwide protests from October 2 if Kumar did not resign by Saturday.
