Kristen Stewart, Riley Keough and Wagner Moura to Star in Olivier Assayas’ Next Film ‘Spiritual World’

French director Olivier Assayas (“The Wizard of the Kremlin”) has set his next movie, “Spiritual World,” with a starry cast including Kristen Stewart, Vicky Krieps, Riley Keough and Wagner Moura.

The movie reunites Assayas with Stewart who won a Cesar Award for best supporting actress for her role opposite Juliette Binoche in his 2015 film “Clouds of Sils Maria.” A year later, she had the leading role in “Personal Shopper,” a supernatural drama for which Assayas won best director at Cannes.

Described as being in a similar vein as “Personal Shopper” but steamier, “Spiritual World” will star Stewart as a haunted, clairvoyant young woman plagued by mysterious premonitions.

The film will start shooting in February in France and Germany with an international cast that also includes Barbara Sukowa (“Deux”) and Niels Schneider (“The Unknown”).

Assayas is also reteaming with Paris-based producer Olivier Delbosc for “Spirtual World.” The pair worked together on Assayas’ latest film “The Wizard of the Kremlin,” an ambitious political thriller with Jude Law portraying Russian President Vladimir Putin and Paul Dano a spin doctor named Vadim Baranov. The movie, which also starred Alicia Vikander, world premiered at the Venice Film Festival.

Arte France, the Franco-German network, is co-financing the film which is currently being developed by Delbosc without a French studio attached.

One of Europe’s most celebrated auteurs, Assayas has been navigating between French and international projects spanning different genres for decades. He notably directed Cuban Five (“WASP Network”), an espionage thriller starring Edgar Ramírez, Penélope Cruz and Gael García Bernal; and the HBO mini-series “Irma Vep” with Vikander.

Moura, who won an Oscar for his role in “The Secret Agent,” is currently shooting Bradley Cooper’s Ocean prequel alongside Krieps, while Keough recently filmed Albert Serra’s “Out of This World.”

Stewart, who made her directorial debut last year with “The Chronology of Water” which competed at Cannes, was back on the Croisette this year with Quentin Dupieux’s “Full Phil,” a Paris-set burlesque comedy in which she starred opposite Woody Harrelson.
