‘Elsinore,’ ‘Clarissa’ and More Join Frameline Fall Showcase Lineup

The queer arts nonprofit Frameline revealed the lineup for its inaugural fall festival taking place in October and November in venues throughout San Francisco.

In celebration of the 50th San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, which took place in June, the showcase spotlights five LGBTQ + films, along with the LGBTQ+ artisans behind and in front of the camera.

“Fifty years of Frameline, and our audience has redefined what it means to experience film,” executive director of Frameline Allegra Madsen said. “Queer audiences go beyond passively watching films — we build community around them. This October, in recognition of that defining spirit and in celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month, a month about who gets remembered and how, we are proud and excited to present a showcase of curated films like Clarissa, Coward, Elsinore, Mouse and Tangles. Each of these films is its own act of remembering, of shaping the story of our shared history. These are stories that deserve a place in the record, and a room full of people to witness them. History isn’t just something we look back on. It’s something we make together, in a dark theater, shoulder to shoulder.”

The showcase kicks off on Oct. 11 with a retrospective tribute to the late Dolly Parton with a screening of “9 to 5.” Featured films include “Elsinore,” following the story of actor Ian Charleson (played by Andrew Scott) who faced incredible odds while preparing to give the performance of his life in Hamlet at the National Theatre in London. “Clarissa,” which is based on Mrs. Dalloway, starring David Oyelowo, Ayo Edebiri and India Amarteifio, will also be screened.

The films were chosen following their impact during the festival circuit at the Cannes Film Festival, Berlinale, Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
