Mizoram batter Chinmay Sutar became only the 10th batter to score more than 400-plus runs in a First Class innings during a Ranji Trophy plate group match against Nagaland on Monday.

Sutar is now only the second Indian player to go past the 400-run mark in the red-ball format after Bhausahab Babasaheb Nimbalkar, who scored 443 not out in 1948 for Maharashtra against Kathiawar.

Sutar reached the milestone off 517 balls.

The highest score ever in a First Class match is by Brian Lara: 501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham in 1994. He crossed the 400-run mark again later in his career playing for West Indies against England: 400 not out in 2004.

Hanif Mohammed fell one run short of 500 in 1959, playing for Karachi against Bahawalpur.
