EXCLUSIVE: Principal photography has wrapped on satirical horror comedy Get Off Your Phone, the feature directorial debut of Chelsea Frei (The Paper).

Frei wrote the screenplay and stars alongside Oscar nominee Maria Bakalova (The Apprentice) and Jon Rudnitsky (Saturday Night Live).

The film “follows Daniela (Frei), a canceled influencer who retreats to rural Wisconsin with her boyfriend, Jackson (Rudnitsky), in hopes of disconnecting from the digital world. But when a mysterious stranger, Rada (Bakalova), enters their lives, their attempt to unplug takes an unsettling turn.”

Pic is produced by Phiphen Pictures (The Stalemate), Framehound (Mountains), and Doom and Gloom, with Molly Conners, Amanda Bowers, Andi Matichak, Emma Thorne, Gillian Williams and Frei serving as producers.

The producers say the “social satire with psychological horror and dark comedy explores the increasingly blurred boundaries between our digital identities and the people we are when no one is watching.”

Frei commented: “I started writing Get Off Your Phone during the pandemic, when my screen time had reached truly alarming levels. I think we’re all a little addicted to our phones, and I wanted to take that obsession to the extreme. I’m so grateful to Framehound and Phiphen for believing in this story and helping me make it a reality.”

Bakalova is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment, Insight Management & Production and Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman.
