Army operationalises 28 Brigade in Kebbi

BIRNIN KEBBI — The Nigerian Army has operationalised the 28 Armoured Brigade and Garrison in Birnin Kebbi, alongside the 281 Tank Battalion in Yauri and 381 Artillery Regiment in Kaoje, as part of efforts to strengthen security operations in Kebbi State.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, who formally operationalised the formations, was represented by the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2, Joint Task Force, North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Maj. Gen. Bemgba Paul Koughna.

Koughna said the establishment of the brigade was in line with the Army’s efforts to optimise its force structure, expand its operational footprint, strengthen command and control, and improve response times to security challenges across the North-West.

He charged the Acting Commander of 28 Brigade, Col. Abdullahi Umar, to ensure that the formation provided essential fire-support capabilities to enhance operational effectiveness across the division’s area of responsibility.

He said the deployment would also strengthen ongoing security operations in Kebbi State, particularly against criminal elements and other security threats.

Koughna stressed that achieving lasting peace required discipline, tactical focus and effective cooperation among security agencies and other stakeholders.

He urged the troops to maintain professionalism, adhere strictly to the rules of engagement and protect law-abiding citizens while carrying out their constitutional duties.

The GOC also commiserated with residents of Jandutse community over the recent death of a resident in a reported bandit attack.

He assured the community of increased military presence to enhance the safety of residents.

A statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, said the residents appreciated Koughna for what they described as his continued efforts to improve security in Kebbi State.
