Former World No. 1 Rohan Bopanna will represent Gurgaon Grand Slammers in the eighth season of the Tennis Premier League (TPL), with the organisers announcing the marquee players for all eight teams on Tuesday.

The announcement comes ahead of the TPL player auction, scheduled to be held in Mumbai on October 12.

Bopanna, one of India’s most accomplished doubles players, said the growing competitiveness of the league and its team environment were among the attractions of returning to the competition.

“Every year, the league gets stronger, and I love the team environment and energy the format brings. This year, the competition will be very high, with a great mix of experienced players and young Indian talent,” Bopanna said.

Argentina’s Roman Burruchaga, ranked World No. 60, will turn out for Kolkata Thunder Blades and will be the highest-ranked singles player in the competition.

Australian Rinky Hijikata, a Grand Slam doubles champion, will make his TPL debut with Rajasthan Rangers. Hijikata has also reached the Wimbledon men’s doubles final and climbed as high as World No. 23 in the doubles rankings.

Frenchman Terence Atmane will spearhead Mumbai Royals, while Czechia’s Dalibor Svrcina will return to Lucknow Blazers for a second successive season.

Hyderabad Strikers will have Croatia’s Dino Prizmic as its marquee player. The former junior World No. 1 and 2023 Roland Garros boys’ singles champion reached a career-high ranking of World No. 70 this year.

Defending champion GS Delhi Aces will be represented by Australian Adam Walton, who has reached a career-high ranking of World No. 74 and has experience competing on the ATP Tour and at Grand Slams.

Frenchman Alexandre Muller completes the marquee line-up and will return to Gujarat Panthers. The 29-year-old has previously reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 38.

TPL Season 8 will be held from December 8 to 13.

The competition will retain its team-based structure featuring men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles, with matches played under the league’s fast-paced 25-point format.
