34 leptospirosis cases, 48 dengue cases logged in Manila

The Manila Health Department recorded 34 leptospirosis cases and 48 dengue cases in the city on Wednesday.

According to Manny Vargas’ Super Radyo dzBB report, the recorded 34 leptospirosis cases are slightly higher than the 33 cases recorded on Tuesday.

Leptospirosis cases in Manila have reached 1,354, with 41 casualties.

Leptospirosis is an infection caused by bacteria found in the urine of infected animals, such as rats. It can cause symptoms ranging from fever, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue to severe, potentially fatal disease.

The bacteria can enter the body through fresh wounds or through the mouth, nose, or eyes, possibly through contact with contaminated water or soil.

The Department of Health (DOH) has assured the public that it has sufficient medicines to treat leptospirosis patients, adding that it distributed leptospirosis medicines across the country before the start of the wet season.

Dengue cases

The Manila Health Department also reported that dengue cases reached 48 on Wednesday.

This is lower than the 74 cases recorded the day before.

Manila has recorded a total of 3,049 dengue cases so far in 2026.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted to people through the bites of infected mosquitoes and is common in tropical countries such as the Philippines.

The DOH had reminded the public to immediately consult a doctor once they experience symptoms, including sudden high fever and severe body aches.
