Prime Video's Carrie Is Switching Casts In Season 2

Major spoilers for Carrie ahead!Prime Video's Carrie is going to need a big cast switch-up when season 2 rolls around. Carrie is the latest horror series from Mike Flanagan, and for once, he's agreed to a second season instead of stopping with one. This is an odd project to pick to go for multiple seasons, however, considering the end of Stephen King's 1974 novel.

In his acclaimed debut novel, Carrie White is a young girl, abused and kept away from society by her fanatical mother. When she's eventually forced to leave her home to attend public school, her lack of social awareness leads to her being mercilessly picked on by her classmates. This in turn leads to Carrie discovering she has latent telekinetic powers.

After an escalating series of cruel and abusive moments at the hands of her mother and her schoolmates, Carrie unleashes her powers upon the teenage attendees of the Chamberlain High School prom. This massacre winds up with hundreds dead, including, in the book, Carrie herself.

The 2026 series follows the main elements of the plot, adding in some welcome flourishes that contextualize it for the modern day. However, after the prom massacre and the death of her mother, something different happens to Carrie. In the show, she lives and is taken away from the scene by another psychic, Emaline (Thalia Dudek), to some unknown destination.

It's a huge departure from the book, and the sense that it was setting up another season was quickly confirmed when Amazon Prime renewed the series. This is an unexpected twist for anyone familiar with the story, and it seems like Carrie season 2 is going to be needing a whole new cast.

Carrie Season 2's Ending Sets Up A Mostly Different Cast

The ending of season 2 sees the deaths of basically everyone in the series beyond Carrie (Summer H. Howell), Emaline, and Adelaide (Kate Siegel). So season 2 is going to introduce a whole new cast of characters, assuming this season won't just be Emaline and Carrie road-tripping together.

It's possible that Sue Snell (Siena Agudong) will return. She had her memories erased in the final episode of Carrie season 1, but it's possible she could have them returned at some point. Amanda West (Katee Sackhoff) was last seen being telekinetically thrown into a table, but it's a TV rule that if we don't see someone die, then you can assume they're alive.

It's unclear what exactly Carrie season 2 is going to be about, but whatever it is, it's going to be a departure from what King envisioned. Flanagan already created some original characters for the story, and Emaline and Adelaide are both great additions to the canon. There's no reason to believe he won't have success adding a few more.

Will Carrie Become An Ensemble Show In Season 2?

It's also possible that we don't even see much of Carrie or Emaline in Carrie season 2 if the show moves toward a more ensemble-centric, anthology-like series. There are other directions the story could take, and with a cabal of psychic people, some with seemingly good intentions and others with nefarious ones, Carrie could just be one of many girls in similar situations.

Flanagan will have to create a whole new storyline for Carrie if he intends to keep her as the focus of the series, so he could just as well decide to create another storyline for a new main character. Carrie season 2 could really go in any direction and, with a new cast, it could look like an entirely different show.
