Five Arrested, 1,300 Litres of Kangara Seized in Soweto, Nairobi

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 3 — Five people have been arrested and 1,300 litres of illicit Kangara seized during a police operation in Soweto, Nairobi, targeting the production of unregulated alcoholic brews.

The National Police Service (NPS) said the operation also resulted in the destruction of brewing equipment used in the production of the illicit alcohol.

In a statement, the police said the suspects had been taken into custody pending processing and arraignment in court on relevant charges.

The operation forms part of ongoing nationwide efforts by security agencies to disrupt the production and distribution of illicit alcohol, which authorities say poses health and social risks to communities.

The NPS said operations targeting the manufacture, distribution and consumption of illicit brews would continue across the country.

Police urged members of the public to support the crackdown by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the service’s toll-free reporting channels.

The public can report incidents through emergency numbers 999 and 911, the DCI’s Fichua Kwa DCI hotline on 0800 722 203, or WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.

The latest arrests come as police sustain efforts to dismantle illicit alcohol production networks and prevent the circulation of unregulated brews.
