Big bike rider dies after crashing at Bangkok canal bridge

BANGKOK — 12 September 2026, A 32-year-old man died after his Kawasaki Z800 big bike crashed at a canal bridge in Bangkok’s Bang Khen district early Saturday morning, with a witness reporting that he heard the motorcycle revving loudly shortly before the crash.

Police were alerted at 01:30 to a crash on the bridge over Khlong Lum Phai near the intersection of Phalasinthu Road in Anusawari subdistrict.

Pol. Lt. Naphon Thongrat, a deputy investigation inspector at Bang Khen Police Station, went to the scene with emergency medical personnel from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Erawan Center and Ruam Katanyu Foundation volunteers.

A green-and-black Kawasaki Z800 with a Bangkok licence plate was found overturned at the foot of the bridge. Its fuel tank was badly dented.

The rider, identified only as Nattawut, 32, was found unconscious on the ground near the bridge. He was wearing a full-face helmet, a black short-sleeved T-shirt and jeans.

Rescuers performed CPR for more than 30 minutes, but he could not be revived and was later pronounced dead. Police said he suffered a broken neck, a severely fractured right arm and serious facial injuries.

A witness told police that he heard the loud sound of a big bike accelerating from Prasert-Manukitch Road, also known as Kaset-Nawamin Road, before hearing the sound of a crash on the Khlong Lum Phai bridge.

When the witness went outside to investigate, the motorcycle was found overturned, but the rider was nowhere to be seen. The witness searched the area for more than 10 minutes before finding the rider lying unconscious near the foot of the bridge.

Authorities were called and emergency responders attempted to revive him, but he later died.

Police initially suspected that the motorcycle was travelling at high speed and became airborne while crossing the bridge before losing control. The bike reportedly overturned and slid into a concrete barrier with force, throwing the rider onto the ground.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage as part of the investigation.

The man’s body was sent to Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital for a post-mortem examination before being released to his family for religious rites.
