Arsenal transfer news: Major deal 'agreed', 'defender battle' and conditions 'revealed' for Alvarez loan move

The transfer window may have closed exactly three weeks ago, but Arsenal are reportedly looking ahead to January.

The latest news, however, is that of a major agreement is in place to secure the services of a key figure, while links to Julian Alvarez simply refuse to go away after a failed summer move.

Arteta ‘agrees new deal’

Mikel Arteta has agreed a new Arsenal contract, as per BBC Sport and the Athletic.

The Spaniard guided Arsenal to the Premier League title last season, ending the club’s long 22-year wait to be crowned champions of England.

As such, he has been rewarded with a new deal and improved terms, which should take him into a decade as the club’s manager.

Speaking last week about his new contract, Arteta said: “I think we are all very much aligned; whenever the time is right, we'll get that done. There is nothing to be concerned about.

“I don't know if the timing will be the same or different, I think we both have the same ambition and the same will, so whenever we have time we'll get that resolved.”

Arsenal ‘get Alvarez boost’ as loan deal conditions revealed

The Spain media are claiming that Barcelona have cooled their interest in Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, thus handing Arsenal a potential boost.

According to reports, Raphinha’s impressive form has reduced the urgency for the LaLiga champions to sign another forward. The Brazilian has been used centrally and has made a prolific start to the season.

As such, Barcelona have shifted their focus towards other areas of the squad, particularly defence.

Alvarez, meanwhile, has struggled for regular starts under Diego Simeone since the World Cup. He started against Liverpool in the Champions League but was not involved from the beginning in Atletico’s recent Madrid derby victory, with Jonathan David and Kang-in Lee featuring in attack.

The situation could give Arsenal an opportunity to revive their interest in January.

It is well documented that the Gunners were unable to convince Alvarez to move to north London during the summer, but a loan deal could now emerge as an option if his limited role at Atletico continues.

Arsenal in three-way Read battle

Arsenal are among the Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read after his impressive start to the new season.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool and Manchester City are also continuing to monitor Read, who has registered five assists in seven Eredivisie appearances this term.

Read came close to moving to England during the summer, with Nottingham Forest making an offer while Everton also showed strong interest. However, no deal was completed and he remained with Feyenoord.

Liverpool see Read as a potential solution to their right-back situation, particularly with Jeremie Frimpong struggling for consistency. Arsenal and Man City are also monitoring his progress, setting up a potential three-way battle for the 20-year-old in 2027.
