COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) bet Sajid Andre Ampatuan is leading the race for the Bangsamoro parliamentary seat in Maguindanao del Sur’s 2nd District.
Ampatuan has received 38,681 votes so far, according to 91.75% of total election returns as of September 14, 9:44 pm.
He is set to defeat his opponent, Saad Sindatok, the candidate of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party, the party of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. Sindatok has obtained only 21,749 votes, making it impossible to catch up to Ampatuan’s lead.
Prior to the elections, Ampatuan served as mayor of Shariff Saydona Mustapha. He is the son of former Maguindanao governor Sajid Islam Ampatuan, who was linked to the 2009 Maguindanao massacre and several corruption scandals.
Once official, Ampatuan’s win will give BFP president and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof “Sammy Gambar” Macacua better odds of being elected as the next chief minister of the Bangsamoro Parliament. – Rappler.com
