IG to visit Plateau on Wednesday over deadly attacks

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, will visit Plateau State on Wednesday as part of efforts to strengthen security following recent attacks in parts of the state.

No fewer than 20 persons had been killed in separate attacks by gunmen in several Plateau communities in the past one week.

The Plateau State Police Command announced the planned visit of the IGP on Tuesday in a media invitation signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo.

According to the statement, the visit is “aimed at strengthening security collaboration, assessing police formations, and engaging key stakeholders in the state.”

“The Plateau State Police Command cordially invites members of the media on the Plateau to cover the official visit of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc+, NPM, to Plateau State,” the statement partly read.

He said the IGP is expected to arrive at Jos Airport at 9:30 am on Wednesday.

He added that his itinerary includes a courtesy visit to the Governor at 10:30 am, an engagement at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, at 12:00 noon, and an inspection visit to the Police Staff College, Jos, at 3:00 pm.

According to him, on Thursday, September 17, 2026, the IGP will undertake an “Inspection Visit to Plateau State Police Headquarters, Jos” at 10:00 am before departing for Jos Airport at 2:00 pm.

The visit comes days after reported attacks in parts of Mangu Local Government Area on September 12, and an incident at Dungus Junction, Kuru, in Jos South Local Government Area on September 13, which resulted in loss of life and injuries.

The Police Command urged media organisations to cover the events.

“All media organisations are kindly requested to be present and to deploy their reporters and cameramen to cover the events,” the statement added.

The IGP’s visit is expected to include discussions with government officials, traditional rulers and security stakeholders on strategies to restore peace and prevent further violence in the state.
