Foo Fighters Close Out Week-Long Kimmel Takeover with Deep Cut Cover of “Baker Street”: Watch

Foo Fighters concluded their week-long takeover as the musical guest for Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday evening, reviving their cover of Gerry Rafferty’s 1978 song “Baker Street.”

Originally released in 1998 on the UK CD single for “My Hero,” their cover of “Baker Street” has long lived within the Foo Fighters’ lore but has rarely been performed by the band; before busting out the cover this month at a benefit show in LA, the last time they played it was at a headlining show in Manchester in 2007. The track is on all major DSPs now, including Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music.

So, it’s fitting that the Foos opted to close out their week on Kimmel with a special one. Chris Shiflett plays the central saxophone riff on guitar, while drummer Ilan Rubin leads the band with a galloping rhythm. “Baker Street” may be 48 years old, but the band makes it sound like a Foo Fighters original. Watch their cover below.

Foo Fighters kicked off their week as Kimmel’s musical guests on Monday with a performance of “Window,” a track from their new album Your Favorite Toy. They continued on Tuesday with throwback cut “This Is a Call,” followed by Wednesday evening’s rendition of “Your Favorite Toy.” Dave Grohl also sat for an interview with Kimmel on Monday, discussing how he initially met Taylor Hawkins, his passion for smoking meat, his daughter Violet’s music career, and more.

Meanwhile, Grohl performed double duty on Thursday night, sitting in with Aerosmith on drums at their star-studded Hollywood Bowl show.
