Six suspects in Chinese tycoon robbery charged in absentia

KUALA LUMPUR: Six foreigners believed to be involved in the gang robbery of a Chinese national at his residence at Pavilion Embassy, Jalan Ampang, here, on Sept 7, are believed to have fled the country.

The six men were, however, charged in absentia at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court yesterday after the investigation papers were completed and referred to the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Prosecution Office.

City police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said police received a report from the 28-year-old victim at 5.31pm on Sept 7.

He said the case was being investigated under Sections 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery using weapons.

"The investigation papers were completed and referred to the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Prosecution Office on Sept 17, 2026.

"Following this, the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Prosecution Director instructed that all suspects be charged in court under Sections 395/397 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement today.

Fadil said the six men were charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court yesterday in their absence.

He said the deputy public prosecutor also applied for arrest warrants against all the accused, with the court setting Oct 16 for mention of the application.

"Following this, police will proceed with the application for Red Notices through Interpol to locate and track down all the suspects involved.

"Police urge anyone with information on the whereabouts or movements of the suspects to immediately channel it to police at any nearby police station to assist investigations," he said.

In the robbery, which is believed to have occurred between 2pm and 3pm, the victim, a Chinese tycoon and businessman, suffered losses amounting to RM2.91 million after his residence was broken into by a group of masked men wearing gloves and armed with knives.

The group fled with cash, jewellery and luxury watches, besides damaging the victim's phone and taking his passport.
