Former AFL Star Mark Hutchings' Partner Dies 2 Days After Childbirth

Mark Hutchings is facing a tragic loss.

The former Australian Football League player shared that his partner Hannah died two days after welcoming their daughter Sofia.

"It is with deep sadness that I share the sudden loss of my beautiful partner, Hannah," Hutchings wrote on Instagram Sept. 24. "I am shattered. Her dream was to become a Mum, so it's been incredibly difficult to take."

The Australian rules football player—who retired from the West Coast Eagles in 2021—expressed gratitude for the love he and their newborn received after the devastating loss.

"Thank you for all of your messages of support, I can't always reply to them all but I do appreciate them," he concluded. "Sofia and I love you and will miss you very much Hannah."

Hutchings' former teammates also shared messages of support, including Nic Naitanui, who wrote, "You'll be the best Dad for your beautiful daughter, we got you."

Meanwhile, Mark LeCras added, "Thinking of you mate. Sending all our love your way."

The team's WAGs also shared their condolences, including Jack Darling's wife Courtney Darling.

"Been thinking of you every day Hutch, no words will ever be enough," she wrote. "Praying for you and your beautiful Sofia."

Although Hutchings, 35, had kept much of his personal life private—occasionally sharing photos with Hannah and other loved ones—he did previously share insight into his decision to retire from the sport.

"Just wanted to say a massive thank you to my family, friends, teammates, fans and the West Coast Eagles Footy Club for the amazing ride and many great moments," he wrote on Instagram in September 2021. "Unfortunately, it's the end of the line for me at West Coast. All good things must come to an end and I'll have to lace them up elsewhere next year."

"It was a dream come true to play for the club I barracked for as a kid," Hutchings—who went on to become a real estate agent in 2024—continued. "I genuinely loved every minute of it and can honestly say I gave everything to myself and the club. Thanks for the memories."
