The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has activated funding allocated to the Black Challenge, Ghana’s National Amputee Football Team, under its sponsorship agreement with GoldFields Ghana Limited, as the team intensifies preparations for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup.

GoldFields Ghana committed US$5 million over two years to support Ghanaian football after becoming an Official Partner of the GFA in a strategic partnership unveiled on May 8, 2026, at the company’s headquarters in Accra.

Under the agreement, $500,000 has been earmarked for the Black Challenge over the two-year period following negotiations led by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.

The funding is intended to strengthen the team’s preparations and cover key expenses, including accommodation, feeding, flight tickets and allowances, as Ghana readies its team for the global tournament.

As part of efforts to ensure effective implementation of the sponsorship package, the GFA has engaged the Ghana Paralympic Committee and other stakeholders in amputee football to discuss the funding arrangements and coordinate preparations for the competition.

GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo has also visited the team’s training sessions on several occasions to interact with the players and monitor their progress. The Association has provided more than 30 footballs and training cones to support the team’s training programme.

During his most recent visit, Harrison Addo assured the players that they would receive official national team jerseys bearing their names, as well as camp wear and training kits carrying the Gold Fields Ghana sponsorship branding.

The GFA has further paid the team’s visa fees for travel to Turkey and Mexico as part of the preparations. Recognising the team’s specific medical needs, the Association has also held discussions on plans to provide two additional physiotherapists and a doctor to strengthen medical care throughout the preparation period.

Meanwhile, the GFA is working closely with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Paralympic Committee to finalise the team’s travel arrangements for the World Cup.

Beyond the Black Challenge, the Gold Fields Ghana sponsorship package also supports the Black Stars, the Black Queens and the Women’s Premier League, reflecting the partnership’s broader commitment to football development in Ghana.

The GFA remains committed to working with its partners and stakeholders to provide the Black Challenge with the financial, logistical and technical support needed to prepare effectively and represent Ghana at the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup.
