Kebbi gov condemns killing of village head, promises justice

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has condemned the killing of the Village Head of Lafagu community in Bagudo Local Government Area, Alhaji Saidu Mujeli.

Idris assured residents that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

The governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, on Sunday, also expressed concern over recent attacks around Kaoje, particularly in Lafagu and Buya communities, which resulted in deaths and the displacement of residents.

Idris described the killing of the traditional ruler as “barbaric and deeply disturbing,” saying his administration was working with security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“I received with profound sadness and deep concern the unfortunate incidents that occurred around Kaoje, particularly in the Lafagu and Buya communities, which resulted in the loss of lives, including the death of the Village Head of Lafagu, Alhaji Saidu Mujeli,” the governor said.

He assured the affected communities that security operations would be strengthened in the area to protect lives and property.

According to him, the state government would provide the necessary logistics and support to security agencies to enable them to restore peace and stability in the affected communities.

The governor also expressed concern over residents who had been forced to abandon their homes, farmlands and businesses because of the insecurity.

He said the government was working with security agencies to create conditions for the safe return of the displaced residents and the restoration of normal economic and social activities.

Idris commiserated with the families of the victims, the District Head of Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman Kaoje, and the Sarkin Yamma of Kaoje, Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar Kaoje.

He also extended his condolences to the member representing Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency, Bello Kaoje, the Chairman of Bagudo Local Government and other political, traditional and community leaders affected by the attacks.

The governor urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and to cooperate with security agencies by providing information that could assist in apprehending those responsible for the attacks.

He said, “On behalf of myself, my family and the good people of Kebbi State, I extend my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to the people around Kaoje, particularly the families of those who lost their loved ones and all those affected by this unfortunate situation.”

Idris prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed and for comfort and peace for their families and the affected communities.

Earlier on Sunday, some gunmen killed and beheaded the village head.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the police had arrested some suspects in connection with the incident and would provide further details after investigations.
