Roma discover referee for Champions League trip to Manchester United

Spanish official Jesús Gil Manzano will referee Roma’s Champions League trip to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, UEFA have named an all-Spanish team for the game, which kicks off at 21:00 CET [20:00 GMT]. José María Sánchez Martínez’s compatriot Juan Martínez Munuera is fourth official, Carlos del Cerro Grande is on VAR and Cuadra Fernández assists him.

Roma head to Old Trafford in form

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side go into the game in excellent form. They thrashed Udinese 5-2 on Saturday, scoring four goals in the first 37 minutes, and moved to within a point of Serie A leaders Inter and Lazio.

United are struggling under Michael Carrick. Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Chelsea extended their winless run, and they were also beaten 4-1 by Como in the Champions League earlier this season.

Inter, beaten 3-1 by Milan in Saturday’s derby, are away to Feyenoord at the same time. Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg will take charge at De Kuip.

Davide Massa will be the Italian representative on Tuesday night, refereeing Barcelona against Aston Villa at Camp Nou. Fabio Maresca, who took charge of Udinese-Roma on Saturday, is fourth official.
