Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto launched Indonesia's first export shipment of electric vehicle batteries in Central Halmahera, North Maluku, describing the milestone as a tangible result of the country's natural resource downstreaming policy.

"The first export of electric vehicle batteries today is a notable milestone. This is concrete proof that our downstreaming policy is on the right track, and we will continue to advance it to the fullest extent possible," he said on Thursday, as observed online from Jakarta.

Speaking at the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP), Prabowo noted that the export shipment, which was launched alongside 11 downstreaming projects, reflected the outcomes of policies and decisions made under previous administrations.

The president therefore credited his predecessors for their contributions to the country's development.

"Nation-building is not a short-term endeavor. Nation-building is a long march, and this is part of that long march," he said.

He further emphasized the importance of learning from past efforts and achievements and building on them to ensure that the nation continues moving forward over the long term.

The president traveled to Central Halmahera to launch a downstreaming program valued at Rp180 trillion (around US$10.2 billion) at IWIP, comprising Indonesia's first export shipment of electric vehicle batteries and the inauguration of 11 downstreaming projects.

He kicked off the commercialization of four projects involving Blue Sparking Energy, REPT Battero Indonesia, Pioneer Aluminium Industries, and XCMG Indonesia Manufacturing.

The event also marked the groundbreaking of seven new industrial projects by Guangqing Nickel Cobalt, Eno Prima Material, Tinci Materials Indonesia, Weda Bay Aluminium, Bintang Karya Aluminium, Flat Solar Energy Indonesia, and Guangqing Motor Indonesia.
