Gutierrez guides Leverkusen past Leipzig in Bundesliga

Bayer Leverkusen defender Miguel Gutierrez scored a goal and set up another as they beat RB Leipzig 2-0 on Sunday for their second win of the German Bundesliga season.

Left-back Gutierrez provided an assist for Czech Republic attacker Patrik Schick just before the break and scored himself after 57 minutes.

The 25-year-old Spaniard’s contribution sent Leverkusen to fifth in the table, while Schick took his tally for the season to four in as many matches.

“I could have scored two or three more goals,” the in-form Schick told DAZN.

“Unfortunately, the international break is on its way,” he added.

Leverkusen’s do not play again until they travel to Mainz on October 10.

Leipzig’s second defeat of the campaign left them in ninth ahead of the three-week international window.

New boys Elversberg held Schalke to a 0-0 draw before struggling Paderborn recorded their first win of the season, 3-1 over Hoffenheim.

On Saturday, Maximilian Beier’s 70th-minute winner sealed Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 victory at Stuttgart as they moved top.

Dortmund are two points clear of second-placed Bayern Munich, who hammered Union Berlin 7-0 on Friday as England captain Harry Kane became the fastest player to reach 100 Bundesliga goals.
