Inde Navarrette Wins Halloween With Penis-Destroying Robot ‘SNL’ Sketch ‘The Inventor’s Wife’

After a pretty weak cold open that was crashed by Tom Hanks’ David S. Pumpkins, Donald Trump (who admitted he “might be gay”) and his MAGA minion Nicki Minaj, and an amusing opening monologue where host Inde Navarrette took a swipe at Shane Gillis, the Halloween edition of “Saturday Night Live” aired a surprisingly fun sketch called “The Inventor.”

The sketch opens with Navarrette delivering a eulogy for her dead husband, an “eccentric” inventor who “spent his final days in his workshop building god knows what,” adding, “My husband loved his inventions and he… liked his wife.”

When she returns home from the wake, she sees that her husband’s left behind a gift for his widow in his workshop —a cute, Wall-E-like robot called the PD 44. The two become the best of friends, though she can’t figure out what PD’s “purpose” is.

We jump six years into the future, and Navarrette’s lonely widow is finally ready to date. She matches with a nice-looking man named Tom Oakland (played by Ben Marshall) on a dating app, and the two go out on a romantic date. They seem to click, and she takes him back to her apartment for a nightcap to meet PD — when, all of a sudden, PD transforms into a giant, menacing killer robot, rips Tom’s penis off and hurls it into the moon.

“PD stands for Penis Destroyer?!” exclaims Navarrette’s widow, before the robot shoots Tom with a laser beam until he explodes, covering her in blood.

“He did love me… My husband loved me after all!” says the delighted woman.

The sketch was a fine showcase for Navarrette’s crack timing and commitment to the bit, and one of the better “SNL” digital shorts in quite some time.
