Harry Kane Left Overwhelmed After Receiving Ballon d'Or Message From Virat Kohli

England captain Harry Kane recently beat the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal to win the prestigious Ballon d'Or award. He became just the fifth Englishman to win the award, after Sir Stanley Matthews (1956), Sir Bobby Charlton (1966), Kevin Keegan (1978 and 1979), and Michael Owen (2001). It was the ultimate culmination of a career that has seen him reach the heights of the sport. Kane's contributions helped England finish third at the FIFA World Cup 2026 earlier this summer, the Three Lions' best finish at a World Cup since winning the tournament in 1966.

The forward, Europe's top scorer last season, also won the Bundesliga title, DFB-Pokal and Franz Beckenbauer Supercup with Bayern Munich. Recently, in a pre-match press conference ahead of Bayern's UEFA Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano, Kane was asked whether he was "star-struck" by any congratulatory message.

"I had a lot of people I look up to message me, idols like David Beckham, Tom Brady and Virat Kohli, as well as my good friend Ed Sheeran. I'm extremely grateful for every single message. I think I underestimated how many people wanted this for me. You expect your friends and family to want it, but the outpouring on social media, and the people reaching out who didn't even have my number, was overwhelming. It made me realize what a big deal it truly was and how many people were genuinely happy for me," replied Kane.

Earlier, Kohli took to X a day after Kane won the Ballon d'Or.

"Harry, my friend, you deserve every bit of this award for your resilience, hard work and honesty with which you've carried yourself through all these years playing football at the top. Really happy for you. God bless you and your family. They must all be very proud of you, as you would be of your own journey. My best wishes always. Congratulations," wrote Kohli.
