NEW DELHI: At least 12 people, including several women, were killed and about 30 injured when a speeding truck carrying paddy crashed into a group of devotees near a temple in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, central India.

Police said today that the incident occurred overnight near the Sheetla Mata temple.

The injured were taken to a local hospital, with many in critical condition.

The truck reportedly crashed into police barricades after the driver lost control, before hitting devotees walking along the road towards the temple.

It came to a halt after striking the temple wall, a senior police officer said.
