Cyclone east of N. Luzon enters PAR; now called Queenie – Pagasa
MANILA, Philippines — The tropical storm being monitored east of Northern Luzon has entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the state weather bureau reported on Thursday.
In its 8 a.m. update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the tropical storm entered the PAR around 7 a.m. this Thursday.
From the international name “Surigae,” the cyclone is now called by its local name “Queenie,” Pagasa said.

Tropical storm Queenie is the 17th cyclone in the country for this year.
In an earlier forecast, Pagasa said the tropical storm was packing a maximum sustained wind speed of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
Pagasa said it will release its first tropical cyclone bulletin for Queenie at 11 a.m. this Thursday. /jpv
