GTA 6 to Simulate Hurricanes Because Weather Isn’t Bad Enough IRL

In a time when festivals are getting washed out left and right, Rockstar Games is about to launch a re-engineered, advanced weather system in Grand Theft Auto VI that simulates tropical storms and hurricanes akin to those in Florida.
Owen Shepherd, Rockstar’s Vice President of Art for Lighting and Rendering, revealed in a new Game Informer cover story (via IGN) that GTA 6’s setting in the fictional state of Leonida will feature storm systems where “heavy clouds, strong winds, dense atmospherics, and a lot of rain combine so that everything is dripping wet, water is gushing off roof edges and lampposts, thunder rumbles and flashes of lightning light up the clouds dramatically.”
Making the weather system even more realistic is that it will be “much more localized and persistent,” with “fully dynamic cloudscapes that roll across the map.” With a map twice the size of GTA V, this means players could get drenched in one area after cruising through perfectly sunny weather. Whether that is too realistic is up to you.
