NDC gov’t has failed galamsey fight spectacularly – Miracles Aboagye

The Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of failing spectacularly in its efforts to tackle illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
He said the government’s performance should be assessed against the promises it made to Ghanaians, arguing that the continued illegal mining activities point to a failure to deliver on its commitments.
“This is an evidence of how spectacular this NDC government has failed the people of this country on the back of their own promises,” he said, showing bottles of contaminated water he picked from some rivers devastated by galamsey.
Mr Aboagye also criticised attempts to bring former President Nana Akufo-Addo into the debate over the current state of illegal mining, insisting that the focus should remain on the performance of the present administration.
“One of the things I hate is when people try and bring in Akufo-Addo into the galamsey problem. Stop. Don’t do it,” he added.
He made the remarks on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, October 31, as discussions continued over the government’s record in the fight against illegal mining.
His comments come amid public debate over the effectiveness of measures introduced to curb galamsey and the persistent environmental threats posed by illegal mining activities.
