Utah teen found safe in Oregon, man taken into custody in connection

It’s been nearly a year and a half since 15-year-old Kylie Arellano vanished from Garden City, Utah. She was last seen by her family on May 29, 2025.

In December, Dateline spoke with Kylie’s mother, Stephanie Coleman, about her daughter’s disappearance for its ‘Missing in America’ series. On the night Kylie vanished, the two communicated via text. “She goes, ‘I love you, Mama. Goodnight.’ I said, ‘I love you too, baby girl,’” Stephanie remembered. “That was at 9:44 p.m. Her phone turned off at 9:52 p.m.”

The next morning, Kylie’s family realized she was missing. “Her jacket was in the drive -- left in the driveway. Stuff was packed, her Xbox was gone,” Stephanie said. She told Dateline at the time she thought Kylie may have left willingly. But she soon began to think it was not her daughter’s intention to be gone for as long as she had been.

Despite efforts from the Rich County Sheriff’s Office, investigating possible sightings, and digging through digital evidence, Kylie remained missing. Stephanie was undeterred. “I am keeping hope Kylie is out there. I will never give up on Kylie,” she said.

She kept that hope alive for more than 500 days.

Now, her daughter has been located safe in Oregon.

On November 1, 2026, the FBI shared a press release, “Law enforcement in Oregon, working directly with FBI Salt Lake City and the Rich County Sheriff’s Office, safely recovered a 17-year-old teenage girl,” the release stated. “She was located this afternoon in Oregon with a 39-year-old male, who was taken into custody without incident.”

The FBI did not release the man’s name or what charges he could be facing. “As this case is ongoing, no further information will be released at this time,” the release stated.

“We are grateful she can return home, and we will continue working with our partners to hold those responsible accountable,” FBI Director Kash Patel said.

Dateline reached out to Stephanie to see if she could share any additional details but has not yet heard back. She did, however, share a simple message on the “Help Bring Kylie Arellano Home” Facebook page: “My babygirl was found SAFE today!! We did it KOAS ARMY.”

If you have information on Kylie’s case, please contact the Rich County Sheriff’s Office at 435-793-2285 or email secretary@richcounty.gov. You can reference Kylie’s case number: 25-R308. You can also submit a tip to the FBI.

If you have a story to share with Dateline, please submit it here.
